Deck Review: The Children of Litha
If you are looking for a stunning deck, today is your day. When I saw this deck online for the first time I had to stop and take a beat. Then, after catching my breath, I went immediately to the creator’s site and bought a copy.
The Highlights:
Things I love: It is gorgeous. It has heart and passion. The cards are as silky as they are colorful. It’s really just an incredible deck and I consider it a piece of [practical] artwork. I also have to give a shoutout to the “little white book” that comes with the deck. It is not particularly little or white, but it is such a rich accompanying piece that I can get lost in it. The interpretations and stories behind these custom depictions are astounding and I keep finding something new.
Things that could be better: …Alexandria could have all the assistants and resources she needs to release her other decks immediately? What can I say, I’m a fanboy for this deck and want all the copies. It’s my favorite deck, hands down.
Detailed Review:
From the moment I saw the card for The Magician, I was in love. There is so much creativity and artistry in this deck. It comes through in the framing of the cards as much as it does in the actual artwork itself. Drawing from these images is like quenching your thirst in the middle of a reading, and it really does feel soul-affirming.
The card quality is excellent. I love the way you can bridge or stack shuffle these cards and they cleanly fall into place. They are highly durable, but also have this really nice matte finish that sets them apart from other high-quality cards on the market.
And can I please give a special shout-out to the packaging?! When this deck arrived, it was carefully wrapped for me with a sprig of dried lavender and a crystal held together by a ribbon. It must have taken five minutes to wrap this thing and that kind of touch really goes a long way for me in terms of establishing a relationship. It made me feel really special.
I don’t think we spend enough time talking about representation in the Tarot, so this deck is one I would like to specifically call out. Mixed within its brilliant nature depictions are uncompromising representation of POC. Specifically, the court cards are comprised of empowering images of people from diverse racial groups, loosening the historically non-inclusive depictions of more traditional decks. This minor adjustment is a major deal to me and makes me proud to use the deck.
Overall, I cannot suggest this deck enough. In addition to everything I’ve already mentioned, the creator is looking to release three more decks with unique depictions, but common elements (backing, general feel, etc) to allow us to mix and match our decks so they are personalized. I feel like that idea is absolutely genius and I, for one, will be eagerly awaiting more from this incredibly talented spirit.
